Frequently
Asked Questions

What is a “Major Donor” campaign?

In a major donor campaign, we seek persons who are capable of giving substantial gifts, generally from accrued cash, appreciated stock, or property.

We are not doing a church-by-church campaign and will not ask churches to raise funds from their budget sources.

If the goal of this campaign is not raised through major gifts, will you then come to the churches to help make up the difference?

We are grateful for the ongoing giving which the churches of our annual conference provide each year to sustain our program of Christian camping.

And we will need to count on those sustaining gifts for the future.

This campaign is strictly to raise capital funds from individual donors, foundations, and corporate entities.

Why do we need lodges at Egan and Cross Point Camps?

We are experiencing an increased demand for the Hardt Lodge style accommodations at Canyon to be available at our other two camps.

The income from Hardt Lodge facilitates camping ministries beyond the lodge’s upkeep; those funds thus help keep costs down at all three sites.

Two additional lodges will help underwrite our camp ministry.

Why do we need a welcome center /cafeteria at Canyon Camp?

Two reasons:
1. When guests enter the Canyon, it is not easy to know which way to turn for assistance. A welcome center will be an obvious “first stop.”

2. Currently, we must feed guests at the lodge in the camp dining hall, some distance away. A cafeteria next to the lodge will be more convenient for guests of that facility.

What will you do if you do not raise the $4,000,000 for these projects?
We will complete as much of the projects as funding allows.

Will these new facilities increase your operating costs, and if so, how will you cover the increase?

Yes, we anticipate some increase in operating costs.

In the case of the new lodges the income generated will more than cover these increases.

Some of the income for the new Welcome Center will come from the rental fees already in place for the lodge at Canyon.

What if my financial commitments may not allow me to make a pledge this year?

Our campaign covers a 3- to 5-year time period.

Your commitment today, with a future starting date, would be wonderful.

Perhaps in one or two years, those existing commitments will change and your commitment to the camps could begin.

How can I give besides cash?

The board of trustees of the Camp and Retreat Ministries will be happy to consider gifts of real property, stocks, or other values.

Such gifts would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Can I have naming rights for my gift?

For those who are giving at least half of the overall cost of a specific project,
naming rights will be considered.
