To lead a DERT you must complete both the Volunteers in Mission (VIM)
team leader training and the DERT training. To be a member of a DERT you
must complete the DERT training.

Join a "Care Team"
Join a “Care Team” Disaster Response Care Ministry Teams (“Care Teams”)
are faith-based, on-going teams with standardized UMCOR training that
provide spiritual and emotional care following disasters.
Participate as a Volunteer Case Manager
Following a major disaster recovery work cannot begin before case
management has been completed. The case management load often cannot be
handled by the professional case managers without volunteer help.
Form regular VIM teams to do repair and rebuild
Form regular VIM Teams to do repair and rebuilding of homes destroyed by
disaster. During the later phases of a disaster it is necessary to repair
and rebuild homes and structures damaged or destroyed by a disaster.
Regular VIM teams are needed to perform this work.
