DERT Trailer Information
DERT Trailer Guidelines

• DERT Trailers will be owned and insured by VIM.

• The Equipment Maintenance person on each DERT is to contact the VIM Coordinator of Disaster Response to schedule the use of a trailer. The VIM Coordinator of Disaster Response will be the only person approving and scheduling the check out/use of trailers.

• The District Disaster Response Coordinator will conduct a maintenance check on the trailer every six months using the designated Maintenance Form kept in the trailer. Also, the Equipment Maintenance person on each DERT will conduct a maintenance check of the trailer before and after their mission trip.

• The Equipment Maintenance person on each DERT is responsible for checking the tools and equipment list posted in the trailer before and after the trailer is used, and for replenishing any broken or missing tools.

• The District Disaster Response Coordinator will inform the VIM Coordinator of Disaster Response of any additional equipment added to the contents of the trailer, so VIM can continuously provide adequate insurance.

• All DERT Trailers must be stored in an enclosed weather-tight, locked garage. The District Disaster Response Coordinator will designate a person to make sure the DERT Trailer is securely locked in an enclosed, weather-tight garage and to oversee any maintenance and cleaning needed to keep the trailer in good working condition.

These trailers contain tools, equipment and supply Items, which are needed in most disaster situations.

• DERT Trailers are to be used by DERT or VIM teams for Disaster Response (Relief, Recovery or Rebuilding efforts). “Disaster” is the key word regarding use of trailers. DERT Trailers stored within a district are available for check out by DERTs from other districts. Again, approval of DERT Trailers will be made by the VIM Disaster Response Coordinator.

• Individuals making donations for DERT Trailers should make them through their local United Methodist Church. The local churches then may send donated or raised money for DERT Trailers to their district office to be used for purchases or maintenance of the trailer and its contents.
