Project Transformation
is a summer literacy camp for underserved children in urban areas of Oklahoma. The camp provides children one-on-one time with mentors and leadership in reading, computers, arts and crafts, music and theater, field trips and enrichment activities. The program is sponsored by the Oklahoma United Methodist Conference, AmeriCorps, and community individuals and organizations.
Project Transformation Oklahoma is based off of the original Project Transformation in Dallas, Texas, which was founded in 1998. The program was brought to Oklahoma by a small group of determined individuals in 2002. This group first learned about the program in January of 2002 and started the first three Oklahoma City camps five months later in June.
In 2004, Project Transformation Oklahoma became Oklahoma’s first faith-based organization to partner with AmeriCorps. Upon becoming an AmeriCorps grantee, the program grew substantially and expanded to include sites in Tulsa.
During the summer of 2008, Project Transformation expanded once again to include the community of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Project Transformation now serves
over 500 children in Oklahoma City,
Tulsa, and Bartlesville with the help of
55 AmeriCorps members, 1,000+
volunteers, and more than 50 partner
