Kairos

The purpose of Kairos is to establish strong Christian communities in Correctional Institutions.

Kairos Torch

Volunteers of all ages lead this two 1/2-day spiritual retreat ministry that takes the message of God into the three main treatment centers of the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs. This Emmaus-like ministry is a very effective in breaking the cycle of bad behavior and continued incarceration. It is for juveniles (average age 16)in a state secure facility, who choose to participate in this faith-based program. Three locations in Oklahoma are:L.E. Rader Center, Sand Springs; Central Okla. Juvenile Center (COJC), Tecumseh; and Southwestern Okla. Juvenile Center (SWOJC), Manitou.

During the weekend, teens enjoy fellowship, good food, fun and snacks, music and games and listen to talks by volunteers. Volunteers serve as mentors or in other roles. Training requirements for volunteers differ according to the assignment. There are many ways to help with the retreats: Offer agape-—expressions of God’s unconditional love—through donating food and supplies, joining a prayer chain, making posters of encouragement, or giving money to sponsor a teen’s participation. The costs is approximately $120 for each youth. Volunteers can also be table leaders, cooks, guides, musicians, or serve in the prayer room.

Closings are at 3 p.m. the Sunday of a weekend ans all are welcome to come and hear what it meant to the youth. Check Kairos Oklahoma's web site for the next weekend scheduled nearest you.

Kairos – Prison Ministry

Kairos is a continuing prison ministry launched with the presentation of a 3-day short course in Christianity. Followed by monthly reunion gathering. Some facilities have weekly prayer and share groups. Kairos is aimed for those in medium and maximum security prisons; both male and female.

Kairos Outside

Kairos Outside is a Christian support group for female family members of inmates who participated in Kairos.
